Our Academic Model
At Colegio Menor Samborondón, our comprehensive liberal arts education is our foundation. This means our students take outstanding classes like English and Spanish Language Arts, Art, Music, Theater, Science, Mathematics, Physical Education, STEAM/Technology and Social Studies (both in English and Spanish).
Standardized Testing
To ensure our quality of education at international standards, we not only have Cognia accreditation, but also, we examine our students frequently through standardized testing. Using MAP (Language, Reading, Math, Science, and Spanish) and BADYG (Skills), we personalize our teaching practices to each student.
Community Service Program
We care for our community and those in need. For example, we have a close relationship with a nearby school, where we assist their needs. Each grade in Middle School, together with the Student Government, additionally develops a fundraising project throughout the year with the objective of contributing to the development of this partner school.
Special Classes and Extracurriculars
Our extracurricular program is offered to students from grades 2nd to 12th and it includes a variety of activities. We have many sports programs like soccer, basketball, volleyball, dance, and martial arts. We also have many non-sports activities that change each year according to students’ preferences: art, ceramics, Science Club, robotics, Model of United Nations, and Green Movement, among others.
Academic Trips
Our Middle School students participate in a local, three-day trip each year. The trip creates stronger group relationships and allows them to experience our country’s beautiful sites.
As part of Nord Anglia Education, we also offer international trips such as expeditions (community service trips in Switzerland and Tanzania), summer experiences (our Juilliard and MIT Summer Program) and regional events (our “Global Games” competition in Florida, regional Model UN, and annual festivals).
Counseling and Learning Support
Our counselors provide emotional and social support to students. They facilitate small group discussions regarding human sexuality, self-esteem, self-understanding, and self-control. They also discuss topics like substance abuse, stress management, and fostering healthy and functional relationships. Additionally, we organize annual one-day retreats for each of our Middle School grades.
Our Learning Support Program assists students who need extra help and feedback about their learning. We acknowledge that all our students learn in different ways and have unique abilities and skills. We recognize academic strengths and show strategies that support our students. We also guide parents when special diagnosis and differentiation is needed.
