THE EARLY CHILDHOOD CURRICULUM AT COLEGIO MENOR QUITO

Our youngest students at Colegio Menor Quito follow the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC). Learning through purposeful play and personalized activities in English, our bilingual kindergarten and early learners are supported to explore, create, and fulfil their potential.

OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD CURRICULUM

Offering an outstanding Early Childhood curriculum in Quito, our program covers the grade levels of Playgroup, Pre-Kinder, Kinder, and 1st Grade. We follow the comprehensive and age-appropriate International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), which is delivered by outstanding teachers in a welcoming and friendly international nursery school and early learning environment.

At this early stage in our students’ education, we create learning experiences and interactions that immerse them in English. Colegio Menor Quito’s Early Childhood curriculum is designed to develop our children's bilingual skills and help them to speak English naturally. The experiences they enjoy are memorable and life-changing, giving them confidence and skills they’ll use throughout their lives.

Really importantly, we also instil strong values in our children. Our Character Counts program has six pillars that we weave through all our lessons. These pillars are responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, respect, fairness, and citizenship.

our academic model

Colegio Menor Quito’s Early Childhood curriculum specialists prepare every lesson to include core developmental elements. These include rich language learning experiences, early literacy skills for reading and writing, math activities, sensory exploration, physical activities, discovery and science activities, creative expression, and opportunities to develop social skills and emotional values.

To deliver this range of initial education experiences, our classes are divided into well-designed learning centers: blocks, manipulatives, reading, writing, sand and water tables, art, and dramatic play. With our teachers’ guidance, our kindergarten and early learners develop independence, a sense of curiosity, a positive self-image, and a motivation to learn about the world around them.

EXPERIENCES THAT ENRICH LEARNING

We take a holistic approach to education at our Early Childhood school and kindergarten in Quito, which complements our liberal arts philosophy and offerings.

The youngest members of our international preschool community enjoy a variety of classes, including music, expressive movement, technology (using learning applications and software), weekly visits to the library, cooking, and sensory exploration.

Support services
We know that every child is a unique individual who matures and progresses at their own pace. As a result, children may need different types of support to reach key milestones. For this reason, we offer social support and emotional guidance from a professional psychologist and a learning specialist.

Counseling
Our expert Guidance Department pays particular attention to the development of our kindergarten and early years students’ interpersonal skills, self-esteem, decision-making, and mindfulness. We have a counselor and psychologist who support our young learners to gain the necessary social, emotional, learning, behavioral, and teamwork skills.

Learning support
Our learning specialist addresses any areas of difficulty a child may have, providing vital early intervention support. In some cases, children may need additional support from an off-site expert to help them adapt to different learning styles or overcome challenges.
