HIGH SCHOOL AT COLEGIO MENOR QUITO

In our high school at Colegio Menor Quito, our students challenge themselves by choosing some of their own classes and activities, increasing their confidence, risk taking, and ability to innovate. Unique to Ecuador, this includes selecting their own Advanced Placement (AP) courses, which give them the ideal preparation for college and the opportunity to best showcase their greatest strengths or talents.

Our Academic Model

As the founding principle of Colegio Menor Quito, we provide a comprehensive liberal arts education. We offer the best liberal arts preparation for our High School students, who take outstanding classes in English and Spanish, art, literature, music, science, physical education, technology, social sciences, and beyond.

Our graduates are prepared to make intelligent decisions about their futures and potential careers, as they explore a wide range of academic experiences across diverse fields of study.

Our Advanced Placement (AP) Program

For over ten years, Colegio Menor Quito has been authorized by the College Board in the US to offer Advanced Placement (AP) classes to our students of the 11th and 12th Grades. This program is used with high schools across more than 100 countries in the world as an ideal way to prepare for college by taking university-level courses in a wide range of specialized subjects. Our AP program offers more than 30 courses. Popular ones include AP Computer Science, Music, Art, Mathematics, History, World History, and both English and Spanish Languages and Literature.

Our AP program allows our students to earn college credits upon passing their AP exams, while still attending high school. These courses provide our students with excellent preparation for continuing the coursework at their future university.

Math and Science

Our math courses are developed by our subject experts at Colegio Menor Quito to follow the US Common Core and to draw heavily from Engage NY—the mathematics curriculum of New York. Many of our students take the AP courses of Macroeconomics, Statistics, and Calculus.

Our science courses are also created by our subject specialists to include a mix of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), AP, and Ecuadorian ministry of education requirements. Many of our students take the natural science AP courses of Biology and Physics as well as the social science course of AP Psychology.

English, Spanish, and Social Studies

Our English courses follow US AERO standards, and many of our students take AP English Language and AP English Literature. Our Spanish courses are developed by our subject specialists, and many of our students take AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature.

Our Social Studies courses follow US AERO standards, AP, and Ecuadorian ministry of education requirements.

Electives and Physical Education

From Model UN to Creative Writing, we offer many electives.

Our students may also choose from several AP courses in specialist subject areas to further an interest or an area of talent in History and Social Sciences, Math and Computer Science, the Sciences, and World Languages and Cultures.

College and Career Counseling

Colegio Menor Quito’s College Counseling Program is designed to help students and their families in their university search and the application process. Selecting a college or university is one of the most important decisions your child can make about their future, so we offer extensive guidance and services to best assist their specific goals.

Academic Support Program (PAS)

The Academic Support Program (PAS) helps students who need continual feedback regarding their learning and additional support. PAS guides the process of identifying academic strengths and areas of development in each student and helps recognize which strategies will best support the student throughout their career.

Emotional and Social Counseling

Our counselors provide social and emotional support to our students and organize small group discussions on self-esteem, self-understanding, self-control, and sexuality. Other topics include fostering healthy relationships, stress management, and substance abuse.

World-class teachers and internationally recognized qualifications

We know every child is unique. Our teachers build up the individual strengths of your child, creating projects that help them achieve globally recognized qualifications so they can discover their own pathway to the world's best colleges.
