High School

Academic Model

A comprehensive liberal arts education is the foundation principle of Colegio Menor. We offer the best preparation to our High School students, who have the opportunity of taking outstanding classes such as English and Spanish Language Arts, Art, Music, Theater, Science, Mathematics, Physical Education, STEAM/Technology and Social Studies (both in English and Spanish) and a wide variety of electives, including those within the AP program.

We educate our students so they are prepared to make intelligent decisions regarding their academic futures since they have undergone a wide range of academic experiences across diverse fields of study.

College and Career Counseling

Colegio Menor’s College Counseling Program is designed to help students and their families in the search for universities and the application process. Selecting a university is one of the most important decisions a High School student can take; therefore, we offer extensive services and guidance to meet their needs.

Our program includes frequent one-to-one, family and group sessions which enable students to search the best options for college and scholarships. It also includes vocational and standardized testing, career forums, university fairs visits and two guided internship experiences.

Standardized testing

In order to ensure our quality of education at international standards, not only we search for accreditation through Cognia/AdvancEd, but also examine our students frequently through standardized testing. With the help of MAP (Language, Reading, Math, Science and Spanish), PSAT (English and Math) and BADYG (Skills), we guide our personalized education program, refining out curricula and teaching practices.

Community Service Program

We care for our community and those in need. We have developed a close relationship with a nearby school in order to provide for their needs. Our High School students complete part of their Community Service Program requirements by planning, funding and implementing a Saturdays School in which they share their knowledge and skills with the local children. This program includes Arts, Literature, Sports, Music and English classes.

Each grade in MS/HS, together with the Student Government, also develops a fundraising project throughout the year with the objective of contributing for the development of this partner school. So far, we have implemented their preschool implementation, water and sanitary system, educational and sport supplies and holiday food boxes.

We will also be working in the development of a fair for the Economics and Civics class projects, in order to raise funds to cover the costs of houses to be built in needy communities in the coast.

Advanced Placement Program

Our school has been authorized by US Company CollegeBoard to be an AP School and Testing Center. The AP program is used by high schools across more than 100 countries. It offers more than 30 university-level courses in the areas of: Science, Art and Music, Mathematics, Social Studies, Languages and Technology.

The Advanced Placement program provides our students the opportunity of earning college credits while attending high school, and prepares them efficiently for challenging coursework at university level.

Student Involvement

Our motto is “our students are protagonists of their own learning experience”. For this reason we put considerable efforts on giving students a voice. Our Student Government, elected each year with a democratic process, includes members from all grades, and organizes different activities throughout the year.

Activities range from fundraising for community service projects, to fun events that raise community pride and enjoyment. Some examples are: delivery of food boxes for needy community members, breakfast for service staff, yearbook design, spirit week, intramurals (sports, academic and artistic competitions between grades along the year).

Academic Trips

We offer trips for the High Schoolers, depending on the electives they choose. We include Art and Music national or international tours, sports events and exchange programs.

As part of Nord Anglia Education, we are also able to offer international trip programs such as: Juilliard/Unicef/MIT/UN trips, community service trips in Switzerland and Tanzania.

Special Classes and Extracurriculars

As an essential piece of our Liberal Arts program, Colegio Menor offers students the opportunity of enjoying the arts, sports and technology in a different way.

As students move into High School, they select classes as electives in order to specialize in their field of talent and exploration: Art, Music, Theater, Technology, Sports. We consider these classes as important as the other academic fields. For this reason, we are proud of our artistic, technological and sports programs, which excel in our community.

Our extracurriculars program also offers our students a great variety of options, which complement their studies with an extra piece of art, academics, sports and technology. These include: UN club, STEAM, Web Page design, Creative Writing, Performing Arts, Cheer Dance, Cooking and a wide variety of sports.

Our Admissions Team look forward to working with your family through every step of the Admissions Process.

Our two campuses (Quito and Samborondón) offer the best quality of Liberal Arts education, while also aiming to teach understanding, respect, and appreciation for Ecuadorian culture.
