Lower School at Colegio Menor Samborondón is an immersive experience, as our children benefit from stimulating lessons across different topics. Our vibrant, liberal arts-inspired curriculum supports our learners’ academic development and builds their character, setting them up for success at Middle and High School.

OUR LOWER SCHOOL CURRICULUM

At our thriving international Lower School in Samborondón, Guayaquil, we offer a diverse liberal arts curriculum that’s underpinned by the highest international academic standards. Our Lower School students’ studies, which span the core subjects, are complemented by immersive experiences in music, the arts, and sports.

We also seek to instill strong values in our children. Our Character Counts program has six pillars that we weave through all our lessons. The pillars are responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, respect, fairness, and citizenship.

A TRULY BILINGUAL LOWER SCHOOL EDUCATION

At Colegio Menor Samborondón Lower School, we want our students to attain a high level of proficiency in English and Spanish and become effective dual-language learners.

Our bilingual Lower School program encourages reading across varied texts, as well as speaking and writing in both languages. During guided reading, read-aloud sessions, and discussion groups, our students develop their analytical skills and vocabulary, while gaining a love of literature. Our learners also hone their written skills at Writers’ Workshops.

Mathematics

Colegio Menor Samborondón’s Lower School mathematics program covers geometry, spatial understanding, patterns, data collection, and analysis. Students work independently and collaboratively on themed topics, solving problems and investigating new concepts. They also practice calculus and learn how to apply formulas.

Science

We believe that scientific literacy is particularly important for young learners. In our classrooms, experiential research activities and discovery centers expand our students’ knowledge and understanding. When we teach science, our goal is to create humble, inquisitive, and respectful learners, who have a breadth of skills.

Music

Our Lower School curriculum provides a solid foundation in music theory, while encouraging experimentation and interpretation. Learners explore several key concepts, including harmony, melody, rhythm, form, tempo, and tone, as well as learning to play an instrument. During these creative experiences, our students learn discipline, perseverance, and respect.

Art

Our art program focuses on the creative process, rather than the material artwork produced. Students learn a variety of media and techniques, create original pieces, and enjoy exercises that encourage imagination, experimentation, and constructive criticism. This creates a true ‘art studio’ experience.

Physical Education

A variety of activities develop our students’ motor, movement, and coordination skills. Our children enjoy team and individual sports, while also learning the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.

INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY INTO LEARNING

In Lower School at Colegio Menor Samborondón, our students use a range of digital resources as part of the learning process. Whether it’s completing electronic assignments on Seesaw or enjoying creative projects on an iPad, our children showcase their learning and develop their digital literacy.

The health, happiness, and wellbeing of our community comes first at Colegio Menor Samborondón’s Lower School in Guayaquil.

Our specialist counseling program for students, staff, and parents features a variety of activities and services, including individual and family counseling, dynamic group consultations, one-on-one student evaluations, and referrals to other community services.

We also provide learning support to students who need extra help. Through diagnostic evaluations and personalized education plans, our specialists identify any additional needs and ensure our children are learning in a way that works for them.

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Our vibrant extracurricular program features a variety of activities, which are designed to enrich Lower School education at Colegio Menor Samborondón.

Alongside sports programs in soccer, basketball, volleyball, dance, and martial arts, we also offer an ever-changing roster of unique clubs, including ceramics, robotics, Model United Nations, and Green Movement, among others. Our 1st Grade children can also attend our after-school sports camp, Little Pumas Academy.
