An Overview of Our Teaching and Academics

At Colegio Menor Quito, our Middle School consists of an outstanding group of professionals with strong teaching skills and a shared passion for learning. Our teachers embrace the diversity of our students and encourage the use of future-focused skills and tools. As a result, our students stay motivated, confident, and excited to grow and learn independently.

Our comprehensive liberal arts education is our foundation: our students take classes in English and Spanish language arts, art, music, theater, science, mathematics, physical education, STEAM/technology and social studies, and a wide variety of electives. In social studies, we use Reimer’s Framework, which focuses on solving global problems and developing skills as citizens of the world.

Next Generation Science Standards

We follow Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), a US-based research program of science learning standards. These important standards give our teachers adaptability in designing classroom experiences that stimulate students’ interests in science as well as prepare them for the future—whether that’s time in the lab in college or at university, in their careers, and in their citizenship.

English Language Arts

We follow AERO's standards for learning English through its language arts framework and four critical areas of reading, writing, language, and listening and speaking. We cluster these four areas through four units at each grade level.

Extracurriculars and Special Classes

Colegio Menor Quito emphasizes the arts, sports, and technology in different ways—which together form an essential part of our liberal arts program. Our Middle School students take classes in art, music, theatre, physical education, and technology/STEAM. We're proud of our artistic, technological, and sports offerings, which our students excel in.

Service to the Community

At Colegio Menor Quito, we care for those in need and our community. We have a close relationship with a nearby school, and we assist their needs. For instance, each grade in Middle School, together with the Student Government, develops a project throughout the year to fundraise with the goal of contributing to the this partner school’s development.

Learning Support and Counseling

Our counselors provide social and emotional support to our students at Colegio Menor Quito. They organize small group discussions on self-understanding, self-control, sexuality, and self-esteem. They also discuss topics like fostering healthy and functional relationships, substance abuse, and stress management. They also organize one-day retreats for each of our Middle School grades, every year.

All our students learn in different ways with unique abilities and skills. For students who need extra help with their learning, our Learning Support Program provides guidance and strategies. Additionally, we guide parents when differentiation and special diagnosis is needed.

World-class teachers and internationally recognized qualifications

We know every child is unique. Our teachers build up the individual strengths of your child, creating projects that help them achieve globally recognized qualifications so they can discover their own pathway to the world's best colleges.
